A winter skills course will give you all the techniques needed to operate as safely as possible in winter. You will learn snowcraft, the use of ice-axe and crampons, avalanche awareness, winter navigation skills, emergency ropework, and incident management. For summer hillwalkers a five day course will include all the winter mountaineering skills and time to practice them, giving you the confidence to explore the hills in winter on your own and tackle some grade 1 and 2 snow gullies and ridges. Winter mountaineering is particularly demanding and requires good fitness, equipment and determination to enjoy the hill even in poor weather. A group of 4 to 6 is ideal. Alternatively you may wish to base the course on the winter ascent of a long sought after Munro. Cost: Five days at £250 per person allowing for a minimum of four people on the course. This is reduced to £200 per person with two additional members. |
