This workshop will focus on route finding and navigation, weather and expedition planning. It is ideal as a refresher for the Summer ML prior to assessment or for any walker or mountaineer wishing to develop their navigation and planning.

The development of navigation skills will be tailored to your previous experience but you will cover map reading, taking and using bearings, calculations of speed, time and distance, and night navigation will be included. A brief outline of the use of GPS will also be included as will route planning using mapping software. Typical venues for the practical work are the Northern Pennines, Eastern Lakes or the Cairngorms. A four day course is recommended at a maximum ratio of 1:4.

Cost: £200 per day allowing for 4 in a group - £50 per person per day.
